Here is a great piece from Unisource titled “Six Myths About Paper”.

  • Myth #1: Making paper destroys forests.
  • Myth #2: Paper is bad for the environment.
  • Myth #3: The paper I use consumes a vast amount of energy.
  • Myth #4: Paper has a high carbon footprint.
  • Myth #5: Recycled paper is always better for the environment than virgin paper.
  • Myth #6: Paper contributes significantly to landfills.

Is your print partner environmentally conscious?

UV Printing:  Printing using UV inks which dry through a photomechanical process. When our inks are exposed to ultra-violet lights, they dry immediately. This is done with very little evaporation of solvents and way less absorption of the ink into the paper stock.

UV printing makes sense for all kinds of reasons:
  • There are NO volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released into the environment once the ink is cured =  green printing.
  • Inks dry immediately = fast printing.
  • Inks are cured on the substrates surface (they don’t have a chance to soak into the paper fiber) = brilliant printing.
  • No smudging! And no need for costly aqueous coatings to protect the print from fingerprints and smears = perfect printing.
  • UV printing means you can practically print on anything = specialty printing.

What do you love about UV printing?  Leave us a comment!

When you think about summer, you may think about barbecues, swimming pools, and exposure to the UV rays of the sun. But there’s another type of UV to consider that’s a bit more business-oriented:  UV ink.

Miles UV ink printer gets printing jobs done in record time.

Miles prints with 100% UV ink, which gives us the capability of doing some pretty creative things. UV coatings deliver more high gloss finish than traditional inks, the results can be dramatic – especially when they are coupled with flat inks and coatings.

UV inks are also apt to be brighter than traditional ink, because they don’t require a traditional drying process, which fades color as it slowly dries and gets absorbed into the paper stock. UV ink dries almost immediately, so it will never smear.

Another plus? UV inks are greener and better for the environment than traditional inks. And, they can be printed on virtually any substrate – flat or shiny, vinyl, plastic, paper — even cloth, glass or metal.

Next time you consider stock and the finished look of your project, also consider the type of ink you’ll use. Think UV ink… and know that your project will get the visual attention it deserves.

If you are a client, you know Miles Printing is a UV offset printer. What you may not know is how environmentally friendly this makes us. It’s true, we’re green and proud.

Miles Printing uses UV inks. Not only are UV inks eco-friendly, but they release no VOCs (volatile organic compounds). VOCs may be naturally occurring chemical compounds or organic compounds, both of which can adversely affect the environment and human health. UV inks don’t carry the risk of releasing these hazardous materials because they are cured immediately after they are applied – AND they dry without the use of chemicals.

Here’s what else we do to stay green and eco-friendly:

  • When Miles Printing has unused or excess ink after completing a job, we don’t discard it. Instead, our unused and processed inks are sent to be recycled into bricks.
  • Our press fountain solution is on a “closed loop,” meaning it filters and recycles itself so waste is not sent into the septic system.
  • The Miles Printing “house sheet” (our quality “go-to” sheet we stock in quantity and offer our clients at a reduced price) is recycled.
  • Even our coated (gloss) sheet contains post-consumer recycled content.
  • Miles Printing purchases 100% green power (much of it from area wind turbines) through our energy supplier to keep our carbon footprint as small as possible.

We thought you’d like to know that Miles Printing is serious about doing all we can to protect the environment, support community organizations AND provide the best printing services possible to Indianapolis and central Indiana.

Think UV Ink!

When you think about selecting a printer for your Indianapolis commercial printing project, you’ll likely consider things like paper stock, quantity, completion date, and the look of your finished product. Of all these considerations, it is the type of ink used in your printing job that has the capacity to most affect your finished look, turning it from a “ho-hum” invitation to a real show-stopper!

And that’s precisely where Miles Printing excels. Miles prints with 100% UV inks, which are not only “green,” but also give us the capability of doing VERY creative things with coatings.  UV coatings are more high gloss than traditional inks, and when they are coupled with flat inks and coatings the results can be highly edgy and attention getting.

Miles POP UV inks allow for matte vs. gloss contrasts that can't help but grab attention.

Take a look at this invite Miles POP produced for a local event. The invitation featured a spot gloss UV coating on a graphic element – while the rest of the invitation had a more “matte” or flatter feel. You may have seen this same effect  in a lot of national high-tech packaging these days for cell phones and iPods, for instance.

Next time you have something important to print, think UV inks at Miles POP, generating the right buzz for your event before it even begins!
